"The only band that perform in the mosh pit...apparently"

Check out a youtube vid of Lighning Bolt on Last FM
This week's "Intense band I've just discovered" of the week prize must go to the crazy two-piece called...

Lightning Bolt. Here's an MP3 of one of the tracks that captured my attention. It has a bit of melody in it. You see - they are intense, frenetic intense drumming, gargled huge distorted bass. They're like Big Business - only more so... and another two-piece I saw supporting Boris last year and in the Meze in Newport a few months ago - can't think of their name.. Bristol band...

Anyway, back to Lightning Bolt........ here's some music of theirs. Just press the blue arrow to "stream" or download and save the file itself.

Lightning Bolt - "30,000 Monkies"

PS If you click the album photo above you'll go to their Last FM page and you'll see a youtube video of them live. Looks like great fun!!

I've just discovered Last FM

This is a radio station that will play music that sounds like The Fuck Buttons. Yay!!!

Friday, January 18, 2008

Right. Toight we're going for a little bit of Dubstep!!!!!

Burial - "U Hurt Me" via mpfrees

This is fantastic music. So spacious and moody. Quite emotional music. It would help to listen to this on something with a nice sound - a big sound system or huge headphones. But it would be good on any speaker size. It's that kind of thing. Yeah!!

Here is a beautiful piece of music. If you liked the last Eluvium track I posted then here is another one! Listened to this earlier on today and I realised how gorgeous this track is. Here's the link to download it with the blue play/preview button.

Eluvium - "An Accidental Memory in the Case of Death"

It's a piano track. Their other stuff is more ambient, looped atmospheres, very dense.

Avalanches - "Frontier Psychiatrist" via batinabox

Old school cut up sample hip hop. Heard this on the radio a few months ago. Great fun!!

The Black Keys - "Set You Free"

Listen to this!! Lovely stuff!! Raw, bluesy, distorted rock.. Like it says on a Youtube comment.. "..the best band you've never heard of."
This MP3 is linked from my MP3 page on delicious.

Better than Mogwai....

And what about one of the best bands ever, who are currently on tour. Far East Europe at the mo tho.. MONO.

Here is an incredible tune of their last proper studio album..

Mono - "Moonlight"

"..think you see through my mind."

A Swarm of the Sun - "Refuge"

What a track.....
I love it. Think Mogwai, Isis, NIN, Neurosis. A classic.....

They have no vocals.

65!!!
Yep, ere is a little MP3 for you..

65 Days of Static - "A Failsafe"

Now, if you're new to this you might not know waht to do with the above MP3 link. Preferably, you can click on the little blue arrow next to the link and the music will start playing when the text next to arrow turns from "loading" to "playing". If you really want to download it then "Right Click and SAVE AS." if you're on a pC and do that thing you do on a Mac if you're on one.. A Mac that is..

Also, in case anybody doesn't like me making this MP3 available for download then I will remove it. Just leave a comment..

As for the song itself, well.. let's start with the band...... a mix of sampled electronica, programmed beats, wall-of-noise guitars and live beats. The above track is from their newest album from a few month back... Oh, and their name is actually written as "65daysofstatic". No gaps. They have no vocals. Most of the time.

Here is a quote form their page on Wikipedia..
"The band have repeatedly stated that they love playing live. Towards the end of 2005, in a mailout to subscribers of their newsletter, they said that they were "a little disappointed" only to have played 91 shows in that year. They have received critical acclaim from independent music websites, such as Drowned in Sound, for their live shows.."

Enjoy.

"Winds with Hands"

Stream the Pelican album.
Stream: Pelican - "City of Echoes"

Entire album. Hydrahead are a great label. You actually get to hear the music you read about without shady download services being involved. Just click the link and turn the volume up and sit back. And rock out, possibly. Here's a picture.. oh, it's above already...

"No More Peace And Quiet For The Warlike"

Looking for some Don Cab on EXPLOSEEK DOT COM and came across ( oo-er) a great Open Directory. Lots of Sabbath, Beatles, Floyd and.. Butthole Surfers and Dillinger Escape Plan and.... stuff... and then came across the comedy section...so here is a link to a MP3 of Richard Pryor.

MP3: Richard Pryor - "Cocaine"

Press blue button etc. I've not listened to this yet. It's partly a link for myself. If you tab back thru the "Parent Directory" links you can get all the stuff I was just talking about....

And one more for luck. That classic track about weed and stuff.....

Luniz - "I Got 5 On It"

"If you love it slow and crushing...."

This is a bloody awesome song too. This is VERY similar to Isis. But less groove and more melodic emotion. This is an epic. Obviously, it's from Lupartakastaja.

Giant - “Calvin”

Very moody....

"the fattest sound system..."

I cannot stop listening to this..... This is like the first time you heard Isis. The first time you saw Mogwai live. The chords of this track are stuck on a forever loop in my head...... Listen to this, download this, burn this to CD, play it on the fattest sound system you have...

A Swarm of the Sun - "Refuge"

Killer...

A Swarm of The Sun on Myspace. Thanks again to my favourite MP3 blog - Lupartakastaja

Have a break from Youtube

Right. Back to the MP3 action.. of the noise-rock style. Keep hearing of Mono whenever I read about Mogwai or Isis and stuff. Well, here's one of their tracks...

Mono - "The Flames Beyond the Cold Mountain"

This is beautiful stuff. When it starts it's like an exhalation - the sound of the chords.
File under "great noise-rock"

"We had your favorite dinner tonight..."

Some "new" stuff I bought in the blackmarket...

Pole - "Heim" (Four Tet Remix)

DJ Sammy - "Heaven" (Featuring little girl) Sims 2 Version

7/8

Just been checking out the online record label 12rec.net. I like the sound of this track...

Milhaven - "Lord of Birds"

The time signature caught my attention. Like a bit of 7/8 in the intro. Have a check.......

Here comes the waterworks

Crazy.. Just found out you can listen to the whole of the new album by Big Business in streaming format. Here..
http://www.herecomethewaterworks.com/

And, you can also check out a band called Drawing Voices.
http://www.drawing-voices.com/

And....... Zozobra...
Zozobra - Harmonic Tremors (Media Player) for some more crazy streaming action.

All this is linked from the Hydrahead Records blog.
Here's a pic of Zozobra.

"Spend your life hating..."

Listen to the whole new album Conqueror by Jesu!
Jesu - you can hear their whole new album "Conqueror" in streaming format here......

http://www.jesuconqueror.com/

Nice...... I bought the CD of this a few weeks ago. It's really starting to get it's teeth into me now. That's what Jesu tracks always do. The tempo is so slow.... the tracks get your attention over a period of months. Not seconds or minutes like most music.

The streaming audio is fantastic audio quality. If you've got your PC hooked up to a nice, fat hi-fi or sound system I strongly recommend visiting the above link if you'd like to hear music that is melodic, heavy and thoughtful. There's chords in there that are quite Loveless-era My Bloody Valentine. This music, somehow, though, is tremendously uplifting ( Track 3 - "Transfigure").

Buy it..

Myspace page

And a video of Jesu live below...

"..tiny little rocks.."

We've all gone video crazy, ain't we? Huh? Huh? Wha'dyu reckon? Below you will see an MP3 of a new track by EITS or as they're really called - Explosions in The Sky. Below that you can watch a video of a live TV recording of the same track. See what you think. They're space rockers like Red Sparowes and Mogwai.....

Explosions in the Sky - "Welcome, ghosts"

And here is the video of it....

Sand is Over-Rated MP3 blog. Buy the new album!!!!
